I'm in MAD magazine . . . Big Whoop!

MAD 489, on stands now! I can finally share this with the world . . . I painted this a year ago, so it's great to finally see it in print! Been a dream of mine since I was 9 or 10, to draw for MAD, so it feels great to finally look through an issue with my work in it. My favorite part about the whole thing was working with art director Sam Vivano, he's a great art director, and I hope to work with MAD more in the future just so I can continue to learn from Sam. It's a fantastic issue, has great work in it from Hermann Mejia . . . worth the whole $4.99 just for his stuff!

Great work as usual Jason. Wow, a whole year ago?! What was the hold up on publishing it, or do they work that far in advance?

Anyway, I love the post. It's great how no matter where we are in our careers we can all learn something from each other. Sam Viviano's a very talented cat.

Keep on, keep'in on.

Thanks everyone!!!! Bobby, you embarrass me, but of course I'll sign it! As for why it took so long? It was irrelevant, too many political things going on, celeb trash and whatnot . . . what I did could have been in any issue . . . it was supposed to print in the following issue of when I was working omn it, a year ago, and then got bumped by Paris Hilton in Jail, and then on and on from there!

Looks good, Jason.

It's not unusual for a first MAD job to end up in the 'evergreen' drawer. The editors are always wary about first time contributors and usually give them a piece that is not timely and can be run at almost any time in the future. These types of pieces end up in the evergreen drawer, where they are "ever green and can be pulled out and used as a replacement for a blown deadline or a piece that came in unusable due to whatever.

My first job for MAD I did in July of 2000 and did not see print until May of 2001. In fact I did several other jobs that fall that saw print before my actual "first" job did.

Anyway, congrats!
